English as a Second Language (ESL Plan) will be followed. Conferences may be scheduled upon request.
Course Rationale
The main focus of the mathematics program in the middle grades is the development of logical reasoning skills, effective communication skills, and real-life problem-solving skill. The 6-8 program emphasized building on prior knowledge through increasingly challenging situations. Additionally, the middle grades prepare students for Algebra I and Geometry.
Proposed Objectives to be Covered
The seventh grade mathematics program includes a strong introduction to the fundamental concepts of algebra. The student will begin to develop an understanding of the language associated with algebra, learn to solve basic algebraic equations and inequities, and develop an understanding of properties of numbers. The content also includes computation with fractions, ratio and proportion, percent, consumer-related problems, metric and customary systems of measurement, and extends geometry concepts to include surface area and volume of solids, coordinate geometry, and some probability and statistics.
