Rules and procedures
Rules:
1. Respect each and every person in this school, including yourself.
2. Have all required materials present and ready to use every time you come to class.
3. Be in your desk and working when the tardy bell rings
4. You alone are responsible for your own actions.
Procedures:
1) Entering Class: All students will enter class quickly and quietly and should be in their desk before the Tardy Bell rings. Anyone without a pass who is not in his or her desk when the Late Bell rings will be marked as an “unexcused tardy”. Excessive lateness will be referred to the office.
2) Bringing Supplies to Class: You are responsible for having all the necessary supplies ready to use when you enter the classroom. This means pencil sharpened (No pens), loose leaf paper, homework, and computer. You will not be allowed to leave the room to retrieve forgotten items. Yes, you will need your computer every day!
3) Acceptance of Work: Classwork/Homework will be accepted only if the following conditions are met:
a) Work must be completed in pencil
b) Assignment must be labeled properly (Name and Assignment).
c) Student must make reasonable effort and show a clear understanding of material.
d) Mathematics assignments must show all work or will not be accepted.
e) Any work that does not meet these conditions will earn the grade of “I
4) Checking of Homework:
a) I will conduct random checks for reasonable effort in completing the previous night’s homework assignment. These assignments will be graded on a 10-point scale and will count 20% of the final grade.
b) There will be homework almost every night.
5) Going Over Homework: Each day I will give you the answers for the previous day’s homework. At this time, you will have an opportunity to ask questions about the previous day’s homework assignment. If a student does not make a reasonable effort to complete his/her homework, he/she will not be allowed to ask questions at this time. It will generally be possible for such a student to get assistance during break, lunch, or before school. We will not necessarily go over all problems from the previous night’s homework. If you have questions about problems not covered, please get with me during break, lunch, or after school.
6) Academic Dishonesty: Honesty counts! Any student caught cheating will be referred to the office and per the discipline code will be assigned OCS and re-test with a grade of "I" entered until the test is retaken. The penalty for Academic Dishonesty will apply to both the person taking the information and the person who knowingly provides it.
7) Progress Reports: Progress reports will be sent home at midterm. I also work very hard to keep parents informed if a student starts slipping on HW, etc.
8) Sharpening Pencils: Pencils should be sharpened before the tardy bell rings. If during the course of the class time, your lead should break, sharpen it (you do not need permission to do this, just be respectful of instruction). You may also use a mechanical pencil as long as you remember it is a tool and not a toy J.
9) Conducting Roll Call: Roll call will take place silently at the beginning of class. This requires that all students remain in their assigned seats. Any student not in their assigned desk may be counted absent.
10) Handling Tardies: A tardy is excused, only if you have a pass from a teacher, administrator, or faculty member.
a) Excused- student will silently give the excuse to Mr. Reetz and then quietly go to his/her desk and start working.
b) Unexcused- will be documented by teacher. Excessive lateness will be referred to the office as per school policy.
11) Handling Make-up Work: Students are responsible for getting their own makeup work assignments! A record of recent previous assignments will be kept on the class web page.
a) Late work needs to be turned in to me when I am sitting in my black chair, but not during the first five minutes of class (I have other responsibilities then).
b) Late work completed during instructional time will be discarded.
c) Students will also be able to check assignments from home and watch video podcasts of the lessons on our classes’ web page at www.rreetz.weebly.com .
12) Make-up Notes- If you are absent you will be able to find a podcast of all lessons on the class website. Please feel free to make use of them for both review and note taking when absent.
13) Checking of Classwork: As with homework, I will conduct random checks for reasonable effort to complete classwork assignments. These assignments will be graded on a 10-point scale and will count 20% of final grade.
14) Turning in Classwork:
a) Turning in Individually: When told to turn in classwork individually, you will quietly place it in the location assigned at that time.
b) Passing in by Rows: When passing in classwork by rows, it should be passed forward, then toward the left.
c) Classwork acceptance follows the same rules as for homework.
15) Restroom Privileges: You are expected to use the restroom during break and in between classes. Restroom Privileges will only be granted in the case of an extreme emergency. Class time is for learning J. If you are granted permission to go to the restroom, do the following. Students will be allowed to go to the restroom during this class three times per quarter.
a) Initial and date the “Hall Pass Book”
b) Get hall pass from my whiteboard.
c) Return in three minutes or less. Return hall pass with out pushing any buttons.
d) If the pass is not returned before the alarm rings, you will lose further restroom privileges.
e) Students who are consistently inattentive in class may lose this privilege.
Excessive requests to go to the restroom will merit parent/teacher or counselor consultation.
If there is any medical reason that a student will need more liberal access to the restroom, the parent needs to contact the School’s Nurse as soon as possible.
16) Leaving and Returning to Room: You will be allowed to leave the room, for other purposes, only in a dire emergency. Before leaving the room, you must:
a) Get permission from Mr. Reetz. If I say no, that is final.
Excessive request for hall passes will merit parent/teacher or counselor consultation.
17) Asking Questions and Responding to Questions of Others: When asking questions or responding to questions of others, you must quietly raise your hand and wait to be called on. If my back is turned and you are trying to understand something you may politely call out as long as you do not abuse this right.
18) Requesting Help: If you need help with classwork, you should first softly ask your table partner. The reason for this is students will understand the material better after they have explained it to someone else. Only when your table partner is unable to assist, may you ask me. In doing this, you may either raise your hand and wait for me to come to you, or you may quietly come to me. During tests and quizzes, you may only ask me for help, however remember that this is a time for you to show me what you know J.
19) What To Do If Finished Early: In the event that you finish all your assignments early, you may quietly help another student (not visit), study quietly, read a book, or do work for another class. You may not sleep.
20) Late Work: Work is due on the date assigned, unless an extension is requested and granted prior to the due date. Students who do not turn work in when it is due may be assigned homework break detention until it is completed.
21) Passing Notes: The passing of notes will not be allowed (this also applies to instant messaging)! This includes but is not limited to passing, writing, or being in possession of a note in or around this classroom. If caught with a note, your parent may be called, and the note may be read to them. Parents of associated students may also be contacted.
22) Trash: Any student caught “Shooting Baskets” into the trashcan or littering my room will get the rare privilege of thoroughly cleaning our entire classroom. If the room is already clean, the student will experience a white Christmas. This will be done during the student’s break time.
23) Class Dismissal: Class is not over until I dismiss it. This means that you may not start putting up your books until I say and that you may not get out of your desk until I say. Even if the bell rings, all students are required to stay seated and working until told they may leave.
Safety:
1. Responding to Fire Drills: In the event of a fire drill, students will quietly and calmly line up in a single file line at the classroom door. The class will then leave from the northwest corner of the school and stay with their class, awaiting roll call and permission to return to school. The last student out of the room will be responsible for closing the door.
2. Responding to Severe Weather: In the event of a severe weather alert or drill, students will grab a hard covered book and calmly line up in a single file line at the classroom door. The class will then line up against a wall outside the room, sit down, and cover their heads with the book. No student may talk or get up until given permission to do so.
